3's Better Than 1
i think that in a way it is much easier to actually see and hear something and analyze it than it is to read and have to imagine what it would be like to listen and see it. but at the same time when you read there is more left for your own interpretation so in that respect reading a text could be more useful. When we watched the music video without sound it forced you to pay more attention to details, the stuff the was going on in the background and you could really get a grasp on the symbolism in the video. when we then went back and watched it with sound it just he same, you didn't notice all the same hidden messages back through hearing his words you could find the symbolism. when i then looked at the lyrics, i saw i was able to connected the two, almost like it was just giving a description of what i had previously seen and heard. so basically that just goes to show you that all of the above forms of analysis can be very useful and under the best circumstances, it would be helpful to use all three. personally i am very auditory so i prefer to hear things rather than see them or read them.

I am also a very visual person. I love to look at something and interpret the meaning for myself. The video we watched in class did seem to have more meaning or emotion when we watched it without the sound. The music, to me, didnt well represent the message I thought the images were trying to get across.
ReplyDeleteI also agree. It is easier to look at something and interpret it because you could completely miss the meaning with reading something.
ReplyDeleteI love art and I believe what you say is true cause I like look at piece of art for a couple of minutes until I get what it means. So I think its easier to understand something if you'r looking at it.
ReplyDeleteYou have have a point because when we saw the video with no sound we ended up having to look in to different aspects of it to analyze it. When we watched it with sound he took different details from the video and came up with a different analysis.
ReplyDeleteYea i believe that it is easier to get the message of something when it is read or heard images are harder to analyze.
ReplyDeleteGood job Justin. The exercise of looking at a video with sound and then adding sound and lyrics forces us to pay attention to visual images. It can be hard to focus on details when you are trying to analyze too many "texts" at once.
