Rhetoric Analysis

When analyzing media you are provided with more than just words like in a text. When analyzing a song, it is easier to understand the writer’s message because you can look at the words they use while hearing their tone. In a song you are also given instrumentation, tempo, speed and repetition. It is easier to tell which words the writer puts emphasis on because you actually hear the person’s voice. In a music video, you are provided with text, audio and video. When analyzing a piece of art, it becomes more difficult because there are no words used. Art can be interpreted in many ways, so it is hard to understand exactly what the artist is trying to portray in the picture. With art it is more of how it makes the viewer feel.

When we watched the music video with out sound, we were able to understand the basic message, but with words we were able to understand the message more in-depth. The images gave more of an angry feel, while the words created a sympathetic feel. With audio and video, you can be given a totally different message. So learning to analyze different types of media can help understand rhetorical analysis.
