Blog #3 Analytical Differences

Different people make for different uses of rhetorical analysis. Individuals all have their own personalities, opinions, and histories which implies they have different methods of analyzing. Since people are so diverse they tend to have different views. For instance, the fact that someone may see the glass half empty may effect their perception when analyzing someone's rhetoric. Some forms of analyzing come off as easier because it comes more from the skeptic's feelings. Analyzing from an emotional standpoint seems easier to me because it comes from your heart and what you feel. Analyzing by using factual information would seem more difficult to me because facts would have to be found and understood in order to properly judge someone's rhetoric. When analyzing something from feeling there really is no right or wrong answer. Factual based analysis has to be legitimate or it is invalid and irrelevant. When we as a class practiced rhetorical analysis on different types of media such as the music video, Martin Luther King Jr.'s speech, Fredrick Douglass' writings, and the passage about the struggles of hispanic women, I learned that the analytical process can be issued in many ways. Feeling or emotion seemed to be the most commonly used method of analyzing. I felt the the second most commonly used method was ethos. The credibility of the writers helped the process of analyzing that we did with all of the media.

  2. I agree with everything you said. Rhetorical analysis can be subjected to a personal view. This is why we may have so many different opinions while analyzing just one text, piece of art or music video.

  3. Nice job Danielle! You're absolutely right; our experiences and worldviews influence the way each of us reads texts, and how we interpret the material. It's important to be aware of what we bring to a text as readers.
